Privacy Policy
Updated: June 27, 2026
Librosy does not collect, transmit, or sell any personal information.
All your data — books, highlights, notes, emotional reactions, reading sessions — stays on your device.
Librosy has no servers. We never read, see, or store your data. Librosy Pro offers optional iCloud Sync, which stores a subset of your reading data only in your own iCloud account (provided by Apple Inc.) — still without us seeing it. See "iCloud Sync (Pro)" below for what is and is not synced.
Books you read
Librosy never sends information about which books you read, how often, or what you highlight to any server. The "Today" reading time, the streak counter, and the memory tab are calculated locally from data that never leaves your device. The book files themselves stay where you put them — your device's local storage.
iCloud Sync (Pro)
If you subscribe to Librosy Pro and turn on Settings → Synchronization → iCloud Sync, Librosy uses Apple's CloudKit private database to keep a subset of your reading data in sync between your own devices signed in to the same Apple ID.
What is synced
- Book metadata (title, author, cover thumbnail, format, your shelf assignments)
- Reading progress (chapter, position, percentage)
- Highlights (text, color, attached thoughts)
- Bookmarks
- Saved words and translations
- Book impressions (star rating and your end-of-book notes)
What is NOT synced
- Book files themselves (EPUB, PDF, FB2, TXT, Markdown, HTML, RTF) — they stay on the device where you imported them. To read the same book on a second device, import the file there separately (Files app, AirDrop, iCloud Drive, or re-download from your source).
- Reading sessions (time-of-day patterns, session durations)
- Emotion reactions (the in-the-moment feelings you tag on passages while reading)
We may extend the scope in future versions; any change will be reflected here before it ships, and sensitive categories above will remain opt-in.
How it works
- Data is written to your private CloudKit database, owned by your Apple ID. Apple does not share it with us, and we have no server that receives it. We never see your reading data.
- Sync runs when you open Librosy and roughly every five minutes while the app is in the foreground. There is no real-time push in this version.
- Conflict resolution is "last write wins" with a safeguard that protects further-read progress against accidental rollback.
Disabling sync
- You can turn iCloud Sync off at any time in Settings → Synchronization. Your local data is preserved untouched. Data already in iCloud is preserved untouched too — turning sync back on later will resume from where you left off.
Deletion
- Deleting Librosy from a device removes the local copy. Data in your iCloud account remains until you delete it.
- To remove all Librosy data from your iCloud, go to iOS Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Manage Account Storage → Librosy and delete the app's data. Apple handles the deletion; we are not involved.
- Deleting a book inside Librosy on one device removes it from your iCloud and from your other devices on the next sync (provided sync is on and they come online within a reasonable window).
Subscription expiry
- If your Librosy Pro subscription lapses, sync pauses. Local data and iCloud data are preserved. Renewing Pro resumes sync without data loss.
Apple's role
- iCloud and CloudKit are services provided by Apple Inc. Your use of iCloud is governed by Apple's iCloud Terms and Apple's Privacy Policy. We are not responsible for iCloud availability, your iCloud storage quota, or Apple account issues.
In-app purchases
If you upgrade to Librosy Pro, the payment is processed by Apple through the App Store's In-App Purchase system. Apple handles the entire transaction under its own privacy policy; Librosy never sees your payment method, name, or billing details. We only learn whether your Apple ID has purchased the upgrade, which we use to unlock Pro features on your device.
Crash and performance reports
iOS may send anonymous crash and performance reports to Apple, and from there to us, if you have "Share With App Developers" turned on in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements. These reports help us fix bugs. They contain no personal information and we cannot link them to you. You can turn them off in iOS Settings at any time.
Permissions Librosy may request
- Camera— only when you choose "Take cover photo" while adding a paper book. Photos taken this way are stored only on your device.
- Photo Library — only when you choose to pick a cover image for a paper book from your existing photos. Librosy reads only the image you pick.
Third-party services
Librosy contains no third-party analytics, advertising, tracking, or telemetry SDKs.
Data export
You can export your highlights and notes at any time as Markdown files via the Notes tab → Share. These exports include only data you have explicitly added.
Data deletion
Deleting the app from your device removes all locally-stored data.
